NREF Success Story:
Dr. Ezequiel Goldschmidt

Ezequiel Goldschmidt, MD

As the 2020-21 recipient of the prestigious William P. Van Wagenen Fellow, Ezequiel Goldschmidt, MD, PhD, pursued the research topic “Recreating neuroplasticity via a cortico-cortico trans-pial bypass” at the Karolinska Institutet in Sweden under the supervision and mentorship of Dr. Jens Hjerling-Leffler.

To date, Dr. Goldschmidt’s work has produced several papers. His most recent paper “Heterogeneous growth of the insula shapes the human brain“, has been published in PNAS.

Dr. Goldschmidt’s first fellowship paper was published in Scientific Reports. Although the paper was started during his residency in Pittsburgh, his time at Karolinska Institutet, as well as insight and advice from Dr. Hjerling-Leffler, was instrumental in getting the paper to the finish line.

The second paper, entitled “Brain folding shapes the branching pattern of the middle cerebral artery,” (Shalom DE, Trevisan MA, Mallela A,Nuñez M, Goldschmidt E (2021). PLoS ONE 16(1): e0245167.) has been published in the journal PLOS One.

The NREF congratulates Dr. Goldschmidt and looks forward to following the progress of his career.
