Chair's Message
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
Donor investment allows the Neurosurgery Research & Education Foundation (NREF) to develop meaningful education and support groundbreaking research.
As an NREF board member, this time of year represents the culmination of a months-long journey that begins in the fall with applicants submitting their proposals. During the winter months, reviewers from across all neurosurgical subspecialties evaluate and score hundreds of applications. The NREF receives applications from some of the most promising researchers in the country, and the decisions are extraordinarily difficult.
Today, as the new NREF Chair, I am proud to announce this year’s grant and fellowship recipients will receive over $1.9 million in funding – a testament to the generosity of our donors, industry partners, sections and partner organizations.
The exceptional quality of the proposals submitted by this year’s awardees makes me optimistic for the future of neurosurgery. These are young men and women to watch, and I look forward to sharing more of their Success Stories with you.
In 2023, the NREF will present five educational courses for residents and fellows. Attendance at these courses is by invitation only, so I encourage residency program directors and department chairs to nominate.
There is still work to be done, and as NREF chair, one of my goals is to focus our efforts on bringing greater educational and research opportunities to our community.
You can help open doors to future breakthroughs through your support of NREF.
To make a tax-deductible donation, please visit our secure online Donate page. Your gift will empower the next generation of neurosurgeons. Together, we can advance neurosurgery and enrich the quality of our patients’ lives.
Sincerely,

Adam S. Arthur, MD, MPH, FAANS
NREF Chair
