Global Humanitarian Fund

Fund Purpose: To support global neurosurgical programmatic efforts

" We make a living by what we get. We make a life by what we give. "

As a group, neurosurgeons are truly fortunate. We practice a specialty that is challenging and rewarding. Neurosurgery allows us to pursue technical excellence, academic rigor and patient service.

As members of this elite group, we are entrusted with the reputation and renown of our specialty. What we do today not only influences neurosurgery now, but will also resonate long into the future here in North America and across the globe.

There is tremendous need around the world for neurosurgical services, training and equipment. We have the capacity and the resources to benefit humanity, collectively or individually. The NREF Global Humanitarian Fund will bring relief to those countries most in need of our help. Under the leadership of Dr. Jack Rock of Henry Ford Hospital and Dr. Peter Nakaji of Barrow Neurological Institute, the fund will employ the “Three Ts” – Technology (equipment), Twinning (one-on-one training), and Training (teaching local physicians and technicians) to bring access to neurosurgical expertise to underserved areas. Your donations will advance the practice of neurosurgery worldwide. For example, $5,000 can support a resident in Africa for one year. As this fund matures, the fund managers will review current programs and projects that will fulfill the mission of this fund and add to the strength of their project. Your support will fund philanthropic works led and championed by neurosurgeons for the good of neurosurgery.
